How much experience with 3D environments did you have before taking the course

I had already created a few smaller scenes, but in the context of architectural visualization. My skills in creating larger, and more organic environments were quite limited, because I didn’t have the proper techniques to achieve the results that I had in mind.

Did you expect, before taking the course that you would be able to create an engaging environment?

I knew that the course wouldn’t be a guarantee to be able to create nice images, but after looking at the results that could be achieved within the course, I was sure that the workflow would be really useful for my projects. Especially the chapters about materials and the creation of buildings improved my images significantly.

A lot of motivation is needed to take all classes, what motivated you?

The different techniques that are part of the course are explained with many examples. That way I could use them for my own projects, even before finishing the whole course. Whenever I hit a roadblock, I could come back to the course and look for solutions to the specific problem.

The course prepares students for the sometimes difficult moments, have you had this experience too? If so, what motivated you to move forward ?

Yes, definitely. Sometimes I worked on a specific part of the scene or a new element, and after zooming out it just wouldn’t look good in the overall context. In that case, I just took a break and then tried a different approach. This often lead to a result that looked even better than what I had in mind originally. In my experience, the difficult moments have the biggest potential for learning and creating something new.

How does it feel to have the experience to create complex 3D environments ?

It’s really awesome to have an idea for an image and already know how you can create it. After I finished the first environment, I was more confident to start the next one that was a bit more advanced and that I wouldn’t have been able to do before.

What are your 3D plans for the future ?

I have a lot of ideas for CG images that I want to create, mostly environmental scenes in a historic or fantasy context. Many of those ideas are still outside of my current abilities, so I will continue learning and practicing to get them realized in 3D.
